Holland Marsh Wineries Wedding Photographer | Newmarket Wedding Photographer

Jessica & Cameron’s Sneak Peeks

Now that Jessica and Cameron are back from their fabulous honeymoon in the Dominican Republic, I can share some sneak peek photos from their Holland Marsh Wineries wedding! They lucked out for sure, as just a few days after their wedding was when all this snow started falling!

They had an indoor ceremony (and a good decision that was, because it was coldddd outside!), which was lovely, and officiated by Jessica’s aunt.

After the ceremony, we did brave the cold and venture outside for a little bit to do some outdoor wedding photos, while the ceremony area indoors was converted to the reception room. (Moving chairs and tables.) Jess and Cam kindly did not make their guests join them outdoors – they enjoyed the warmth inside on the upper level while the room was being converted.

Savannah

After seeing Cora, Lily, Erin, Claire and Brooklynn in recent blog posts, it should come as no surprise that my daughter is also an Irish dancer. Which makes me her Newmarket Irish dance photographer, on top of everything else ๐Ÿ˜‰

About a month ago, she moved up to the level where they graduate from the traditional school dresses (below), to the coveted sparkly dresses, also known as solo dresses.

Traditional school dress

I do like to photograph dancers with their hair down, because it shows SO much more movement in the photos when their hair is flowing around them. BUT it also makes it a bit more challenging, if you want the hair to flow a certain way – and the wind doesn’t always cooperate. (Or in my experience, the wind usually doesn’t cooperate.) That’s no exception for my daughter who has very, very long hair! However, she was excited to wear her first solo dress, so photos were of course required! Especially when your mom is a photographer ๐Ÿ˜‰

Savannah used to compete a lot wearing her hair down (well, pulled in a half-ponytail, so it wasn’t in her face) when she wore the school dress. Now when she competes in the solo dress, we tend to put her hair up. I wanted to have photos of what she actually looked like when competing, but at the same time didn’t really feel like doing her hair just for photos ๐Ÿ˜‰ The first competition we went to after she got her dress was down in Toledo, Ohio. After she competed (and did well!), we found a spot near our hotel and got to work on new photos!

When I’m shooting wedding photos, and I’m walking around with a bride and groom, I’m completely used to having people stare at us, or watch us, or tell the bride how beautiful she looks – my daughter however, not so used to that ๐Ÿ˜‰ PLUS it was right in the middle of the Toledo Pride Festival, so we saw lots of interesting characters, and they were all talking to Savannah as they walked by. Luckily, after a few minutes, she got used to it, and wasn’t phased at all by strangers talking to her. She loves to perform and be on stage, so having people watch her have her photo taken was no problem!

Around Toledo, there are some interesting sculptures. The one below was just behind us when we were shooting her photos, and Savannah decided she should have some photos done with the sculpture. (I may or may not have edited the sculpture to match the colours of her dress… and I may or may not have spent a lot of time editing out cars, pedestrians, and various street signs out of the background also… Worth the effort though I think!)

Sharon & Ryan

How They Met

Sharon and Ryan originally met by working together, in Thompson, Manitoba. Their cubicles were right next to each other in the office. When they first met and became friends, Sharon was wearing a hard hat and was angry about something and was walking angrily past the cubicles – but because she was shorter than the cubicle wall, all Ryan could see was this angry hard hat storming past. Of course he cracked up laughing.

Ryan used to stand up and talk to Sharon over their shared cubicle wall. At first Sharon thought Ryan seemed very nice, and he was very tall and had cute dimples. But she quickly realized that she couldn’t just lean over and talk to Ryan whenever she wanted, she had to walk all the way around the cubicles to talk to him!

They were friends for many years, but then one night they were at Ryan’s place – Ryan had just bought a brand new 3D TV and they ordered takeout sushi and watched a Blockbuster-rented (yes this was awhile ago!) Planet Earth in 3D to test out the new TV. Seven years later, they were engaged!

The Proposal

Ryan made Sharon a very nice dinner for her birthday (it was actually a couple days before her birthday, as on her actual birthday they were busy that whole weekend.) Along with dinner, Ryan hand-made fortune cookies (whoa!), and put personalized fortunes inside for dessert. He hid the ring inside Sharon’s fortune cookie, which Sharon almost didn’t open or eat, because she was too full. Ryan had to trick Sharon into opening the fortune cookie with the ring in it, by telling her “Oh, at least read the fortune!”, because apparently there was no plan B if Sharon refused to open another fortune cookie!

The Wedding

Sharon got ready in Newmarket, with some immediate family and a couple of close girlfriends. They had a very tight and busy schedule in the morning, including an incense offering and tea ceremony, so I met them at the St. John Chrysostom parish, also in Newmarket, just before the ceremony.

The Ceremony

Sharon and Ryan had an indoor Newmarket wedding ceremony, at the St. John Chrysostom Parish, in Newmarket. It was a HOT summer July day, but the light inside the parish was fantastic, and they had lots of fans running.

It was a catholic ceremony, lasting about an hour. Catholic ceremonies always give me plenty of time for photos! ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Wedding Party

After the ceremony, I had a bit of a break while everyone went to lunch. We all then met at King’s Riding Golf Club in King City where the reception was going to be held. It was there that we did all of the photos.

The wedding party consisted of two bridesmaids (yes two, hang on…), two junior bridesmaids (see, I didn’t miss anyone!), and two groomsmen. They are a great group, and Jean had a great time driving a golf cart for the first time when she came to help us with the bride and groom photos (thanks Jean!)

Erin

I have been loving doing all this Newmarket Irish dance photography lately! I was especially honoured to photograph Erin in her very first solo dress! Her dress was custom-made for her, by Kerry Designs – it’s stunning!

Congrats on your first solo dress Erin!
