Ancaster Wedding Photographer | The Ancaster Mill

Cheryl & John

How They Met

Cheryl and John initially met in high school, but they didn’t really get to know each other until 2012. They were just friends for three years before they started dating. In 2015, they had their first date, and they’ve been together ever since!

There was really no question for either of us.

The Proposal

John proposed during a family photoshoot, outdoors at Ball’s Falls. John’s daughter, Sofia, was there, as he wanted the whole family to be a part of the engagement.

The Wedding

John and Cheryl had to reschedule their wedding twice due to COVID-19, but they finally had their big wedding, and celebrated with family and friends! Their wedding was at the Ancaster Mill, in Ancaster Ontario. They had an indoor ceremony at Ancaster Mill’s gorgeous Miller’s Chapel.

Getting Ready

John, and his best man Kyle, both got ready at the Barrack’s Inn, just up the street from the venue.

It was quite handy that the inn was so close, because it just took me (and later, the guys) a quick 5-minute drive to get to the Ancaster Mill to see how the girls were doing.

Once Cheryl and her maid of honour (and cake artist!), Cynthia were ready to go, we did some quick bridal portraits before heading to the chapel.

The Ceremony

John Shore officiated the indoor ceremony at The Miller’s Chapel, and he did a fantastic job. I highly recommend him to anyone and everyone!

The Wedding Party

Cynthia and Kyle made a fantastic wedding party. They were not only helpful, but they kept the mood light and upbeat (and stress-free!) with their hilarious senses of humour! I had the best time photographing these four all day!

The Newlyweds!

The mandatory bride and groom portraits, of course! The Ancaster Mill has so many great photo spots, you can really take photos pretty much anywhere. I do have some favourite photo locations though 😉

The Reception

The reception was held in the Millview Room.

Congrats Cheryl & John!

Sarah & Gavin

Today I get to share with you more photos from Sarah and Gavin’s Newmarket Waterstone wedding!

How They Met

Sarah and Gavin met through a mutual friend. They went on their first date to the movies, and 4 years later, they were engaged!

The Proposal

Sarah and Gavin have a unique proposal story, one I haven’t heard before! When Sarah met Gavin’s grandma for the first time, Gavin’s grandma feel in love with her. She pulled Sarah aside and told her to put a ring on her own finger while Gavin was asleep, then when he woke up in the morning, she should just act as if Gavin had popped the question the night before. haha, sneaky grandma! Sarah didn’t do that, but a few years later, after Sarah fell asleep, Gavin put her Gran’s engagement ring on her finger! When Sarah woke up the next morning, she noticed the ring on her finger! She woke Gavin up and she asked him about it, and Gavin came over to her and dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him!

The Wedding

You may ask be wondering “Is Gavin’s wedding ring BLUE?!” Yes. Yes it is – and I wondered the same thing when they gave me the rings to photograph and Gavin’s ring was blue, and made of rubber. But there is a good reason for it! Gavin is a mechanic for the military, and he wouldn’t have been allowed to wear a real ring while working, so they found this alternative! It still symbolizes the same thing plus, fun fact, it’s so much easier to pose rings when the groom’s ring is made of rubber! The rings don’t slip around as much.

In the 8 years that I’ve been shooting weddings, I’ve only had one incident of photographing the same wedding dress. There must be a billion different styles of wedding dresses out there, so coming across one you’ve photographed before is pretty rare. Well it just so happens, that Sarah chose the same dress AND the same venue as my 2015 bride, Jenny! Sarah’s dress had pink undertones (Jenny’s was gold) and a few minor differences (Sarah had her dress altered to have a corset in the back rather than a zipper), but I couldn’t believe my luck – same dress and same venue! I knew then and there that Sarah and Gavin’s wedding was going to be awesome, because that’s such an incredibly rare thing to have happen! It had to be a sign of good luck (at least, I thought so!)

The Bride & Groom

Sarah and Gavin did a First Look, as well as all their bride & groom portraits, before the ceremony. This way they could maximize their time with their guests. We had a gorgeous sunny day with blue skies working with us, so it was a great day for outdoor photos, especially at Waterstone Estate & Farms!

The Ceremony

The ceremony was held in the outdoor gazebo, which is always lovely! Their wedding ceremony was at 10:30am, as they were having a lovely mid-day brunch reception!

The Reception

The reception was a unique breakfast/brunch buffet and it was soooo good. Seriously, more couples need to do this. Who doesn’t love breakfast food?! Plus it was so cozy and quaint somehow!

Corrie & Justin

I have some Newmarket wedding photos to share today! Corrie and Justin got married at the ever-popular Madsen’s Greenhouse in Newmarket. I’ve thought long and hard about how to describe the “theme” of Corrie and Justin’s wedding. There was foliage, birdcages, birch tree decorations, leaves, lavender… after much thought I’ve decided to describe it as an “Enchanted Forest” theme. It was truly beautiful! (Well done, Corrie!).

How They Met

Now here is something you don’t hear too often… Corrie and Justin met while they were on vacation in Cuba! Justin was there with his buddy Alex, and Corrie was there with her 2 friends (Lauren and Kristen). Lauren wanted to meet Alex because they both went to Brock University. They all ended up hanging out together for the rest of the vacation, and they had a blast together! Corrie and Justin both thought that they had a lot of fun together, but they assumed they would never see each other again once they got back to Canada.

When they got home from Cuba, they added each other on Facebook and exchanged phone numbers. Since Corrie worked at a golf course, and Justin loves golf, Corrie invited Justin to go golfing. It was the summer, so they also attended various pool parties and outdoor get-togethers before they actually started dating.

The Proposal

It wasn’t until 8 years later that Justin popped the question! It was the weekend after Corrie’s birthday and Justin had planned an outing for that weekend, which was a complete surprise. Corrie came home from work and was greeted with flowers and wine. It took a while to notice, eventually Corrie noticed that her adorable dog Ava was wearing a new custom dog tag, which asked if Corrie wanted to marry Justin. Of course Corrie said yes! We celebrated by doing a waterfall tour and visiting the Eugenia waterfalls and a couple others, and exploring the outdoors for the day. Corrie said it was perfect!

The Bride & Groom!

Once Corrie and Justin were all pretty, they opted to do a First Look so they could maximize the time with their guests after the ceremony.
After that we went right into bride & groom photos. I must say, these two are fantastic in front of a camera! I don’t think I’ve ever shot so many bride & groom photos in such a short period of time!

It was a perfect day to have an outdoor ceremony!

The Reception

Here’s where I will show you a bit of what I’m calling the “Enchanted Forest” decor!

I LOVE how Corrie and Justin did their seating chart! The logs, the moss… love it! And the head table “Mr. & Mrs” sign? Come on – it’s perfect!

Reception tables! It all goes together so elegantly. And the birch-tree-candle favors (made by Justin!)? Adorable.

This is not a real cake (Corrie and her mom baked cupcakes!), but it is such a cool idea! If I remember correctly, Corrie told me her mom made this faux-cake out of pieces of birch tree, and then made a cute little cake topper with pinecones, decorating them to look like a bride and groom. And she even included a dog, to represent Corrie and Justin’s dog Ava!

I always love to see how couples can decorate the same venue differently!

All in all, it was a fantastic day, and I’m just thrilled I got to be a part of it!

Congrats Corrie & Justin!

Sarah & Gavin’s Sneak Peeks

After Sarah and Gavin’s awesome Waterstone wedding, and then Stephanie and Marc’s wedding at The Manor before that, I am sold – I LOVE brunch weddings!!! Seriously people, is there anything better than having breakfast food (yes I’m talking bacon, pancakes, croissants, etc), and then dessert? No, no there is not!

After this super rainy summer we’ve had, I yet again lucked into a beautiful sun-shiny day for Sarah and Gavin’s wedding! They got married at the beautiful Waterstone Estate & Farms in Newmarket (or, technically, King, or King City I think. But it’s JUST outside Newmarket so I’m going with Newmarket!).

I only met Sarah and Gavin the day before their wedding, because they both live in Alberta! The wedding was mostly planned by Sarah’s wonderful mother – who did a really fantastic job of organizing everything, if I do say so myself!

Sarah and Gavin are such sweet and kind people, and they have a wonderful circle of friends and family. I’m so happy I got to meet them all, and be a part of their wonderful day!

Corrie & Justin’s Sneak Peeks

Corrie and Justin got married at Newmarket’s very popular Madsen’s Greenhouse, on a beautiful sunny August day.

There was talk that it might rain, but the rain held off so they could have the outdoor ceremony that Corrie was hoping for! Here are a few photos of the happy couple – more to come!

Congrats Corrie & Justin!
