Emily & Adam’s Sneak Peeks

After almost a year off (thanks to the covid-19 pandemic, ugh), I shot my first 2021 wedding last weekend! It was a gorgeous August summer day at the Holland Marsh Wineries in Newmarket, where Emily and Adam held their outdoor ceremony. Here are some sneak peek photos from their fabulous day!

Newmarket Cake Smash Photographer

Louise’s 40th Birthday Cake Smash

During Louise’s 40th birthday cake smash photo session, she asked me how long it’s been since we’ve known each other – since I did her very first photoshoot with her dogs, for my first Dog Day fundraiser. So, I decided to look it up! Turns out Louise, the day we met was January 29th, 2012 – over 8 years ago! (We have an anniversary! Awwww). I was actually surprised we haven’t made it to 10 years yet, I feel like I’ve known Louise (and now, her family) forever!

In the 8 years that I’ve known Louise, we’ve done (and I just went through all my backup files and counted) 15 photo sessions together. It feels like so much more though because I also edit a lot of photos Louise herself takes (yes, I offer photo editing services as well! *toothpaste smile*). But yes 15 photo sessions is about right, as most years we do bi-annual photoshoots… and we’ve only done one this year… SO FAR…. 😉

Two or three years ago, Louise mentioned that she wanted to do a cake smash for her 40th birthday. I told her sure, but I didn’t know if I would be doing photography still in 10 years, that’s a long way away to be planning. Turns out, Louise looks SUPER young, and to this day my daughter still thinks she’s in her 20’s 😉

Part of her birthday photoshoot was done at her home, with her family, her cats (who did NOT wear party hats! 🙁 ), and her gorgeous, hilarious children. The other part was done at Crossfit Newmarket – those photos may appear in a separate blog post, if Louise lets me post them 🙂

And so, to my dear friend, my long-time client, the mother of my little photo BFFs, and just all around wonderful human being, I say to you…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOUISE!!!!!!!!!!

I’m so glad I could bring your vision to life! We always have so much fun during our photoshoots, and always laugh pretty hard too. Good times! Fun sidenote: This is our 4th cake smash we’ve done together, after Olive, River, and of course, Dryfuss! 😉 (I didn’t actually shoot Dryfuss’ cake smash, Louise did, and then I did all the editing, but I’m still counting it. 😀 )

Jessica & Cameron

Jessica and Cameron‘s beautiful autumn Holland Marsh Wineries wedding, in Newmarket Ontario, is up on the blog today!

How They Met

Similar to the popular movie The Notebook, Jessica and Cameron met at their local town fair. The first thing Jessica remembers about meeting Cam, was his bright blue eyes, and how warm and comfortable she immediately felt next to him. The first thing Cameron remembers thinking when he first met Jess, was how beautiful her curly hair was, and how contagious and beautiful her smile was. They were both still in high school, and they dated for 8 years (and 1 month!) before they got engaged.

The Proposal

Cameron proposed while on a trip to Niagara Falls with Jessica’s family. They were all watching the fireworks over the falls when Cam pulled Jess over to the, side and proposed as the fireworks were going off overhead. It was an incredibly magical romantic proposal!

The Wedding

Jessica and Cameron had a Holland Marsh Wineries wedding in early November. The weather was chilly, but they had an indoor ceremony so everyone stayed warm. Except of course when we went outside for photos 😉

Getting Ready

The girls got ready in the bridal suite at the Holland Marsh Wineries, while the boys got ready off-site.

I love ring photos, but I especially love when the couple gets a cute little ring box for the rings as well!
Fun fact: Jessica’s headpiece was actually the same one her mother wore at her own wedding! (“Something old” AND “something borrowed”?)

The Ceremony

As I mentioned earlier, the ceremony was held indoors. A great thing about an indoor Holland Marsh Wineries wedding ceremony, is that I can easily go upstairs and move around to get different angles of the ceremony.

The Newlyweds!

Jess and Cam ventured out into the chilly weather with me, to get some gorgeous photos from around the Holland Marsh Wineries property. The venue has so many great photo spots in a close proximity, so we didn’t have to walk very far, which saved us time and ultimately, didn’t have to be out in the cold for as long 😉

Vineyard shots are usually some of my favourites at this venue! Especially with textured clouds in the sky!

The Reception

While we were outside taking photos, the clubhouse was converted from “ceremony” to “reception” (which was very quick, it only took about 10 minutes.). The tables were decorated with some autumn foliage, and somehow it was simple, yet elegant.

Jessica & Cameron’s Sneak Peeks

Now that Jessica and Cameron are back from their fabulous honeymoon in the Dominican Republic, I can share some sneak peek photos from their Holland Marsh Wineries wedding! They lucked out for sure, as just a few days after their wedding was when all this snow started falling!

They had an indoor ceremony (and a good decision that was, because it was coldddd outside!), which was lovely, and officiated by Jessica’s aunt.

After the ceremony, we did brave the cold and venture outside for a little bit to do some outdoor wedding photos, while the ceremony area indoors was converted to the reception room. (Moving chairs and tables.) Jess and Cam kindly did not make their guests join them outdoors – they enjoyed the warmth inside on the upper level while the room was being converted.

Savannah

After seeing Cora, Lily, Erin, Claire and Brooklynn in recent blog posts, it should come as no surprise that my daughter is also an Irish dancer. Which makes me her Newmarket Irish dance photographer, on top of everything else 😉

About a month ago, she moved up to the level where they graduate from the traditional school dresses (below), to the coveted sparkly dresses, also known as solo dresses.

Traditional school dress

I do like to photograph dancers with their hair down, because it shows SO much more movement in the photos when their hair is flowing around them. BUT it also makes it a bit more challenging, if you want the hair to flow a certain way – and the wind doesn’t always cooperate. (Or in my experience, the wind usually doesn’t cooperate.) That’s no exception for my daughter who has very, very long hair! However, she was excited to wear her first solo dress, so photos were of course required! Especially when your mom is a photographer 😉

Savannah used to compete a lot wearing her hair down (well, pulled in a half-ponytail, so it wasn’t in her face) when she wore the school dress. Now when she competes in the solo dress, we tend to put her hair up. I wanted to have photos of what she actually looked like when competing, but at the same time didn’t really feel like doing her hair just for photos 😉 The first competition we went to after she got her dress was down in Toledo, Ohio. After she competed (and did well!), we found a spot near our hotel and got to work on new photos!

When I’m shooting wedding photos, and I’m walking around with a bride and groom, I’m completely used to having people stare at us, or watch us, or tell the bride how beautiful she looks – my daughter however, not so used to that 😉 PLUS it was right in the middle of the Toledo Pride Festival, so we saw lots of interesting characters, and they were all talking to Savannah as they walked by. Luckily, after a few minutes, she got used to it, and wasn’t phased at all by strangers talking to her. She loves to perform and be on stage, so having people watch her have her photo taken was no problem!

Around Toledo, there are some interesting sculptures. The one below was just behind us when we were shooting her photos, and Savannah decided she should have some photos done with the sculpture. (I may or may not have edited the sculpture to match the colours of her dress… and I may or may not have spent a lot of time editing out cars, pedestrians, and various street signs out of the background also… Worth the effort though I think!)
