Emily and Bill’s Georgina ROC Chalet wedding had very elegant decor with a “light sprinkling” of golden dinosaurs (yes, golden dinosaurs), and was accented with elements from The Simpsons. Most of the guests were wondering “What’s up with the golden dinosaurs?” and they all had to wait for the bride and groom’s speech to find out the answer – the answer was the quote above 😉
How They Met
Originally, Emily and Bill met on the internet. When they met in-person, they actually met outside a subway station in Toronto (because Emily was running late. ha). On their first date, they went to a pub, and they talked for hours. Bill got tipsy and was a super gentleman and insisted on escorting Emily home on the subway, bus, then subway, then to her car. Then, Emily drove him home because she was sober. They dated for 18 months before getting engaged!
Bill woke Emily up before my night-shift with coffee and a ring, and asked “So… you wanna get hitched?” Apparently this was a great way to wake up, because Emily said yes!
As I mentioned earlier, there were elements of The Simpsons TV show here and there. (The golden dinosaurs I’ll get into more when I get to the Reception part of the blog.) One of those was Bill’s cufflinks – which are replicas of the cufflinks from the Simpsons episode of Lisa’s wedding!
Emily and Bill did a First Look (most people will tap the groom on the shoulder or poke them or something, Emily went with the always popular, ass-grab.), and all their bride & groom photos before the ceremony, so they could mingle with guests right after the ceremony.
The ceremony was held indoors, because despite it being September, it was crazy hot outside! (It was something like 32*C)
Here’s where the golden dinosaurs come in!
Someone (not Emily), added to the golden dinosaur cake toppers, by dressing them with a tiny bouquet, and floral bow-tie!
The first dance was done in the same area as the ceremony, but the arch was moved away.
Congrats Emily & Bill!! I never thought about it until afterwards, but I left before you guys brought out the pinatas! D’oh!

Secret Garden Themed Wedding
Kelly & Steven
Today I’m sharing with you photos from Kelly and Steven’s Miller Lash House wedding (with a secret garden theme!) Their Miller Lash House wedding took place on a gorgeous sunny Toronto day. (Well, Scarborough, technically.). The ceremony was outdoors in a unique circular 360* setting, while the reception was held in what felt like a tented garden. I just love all the decor that Kelly chose! But we will get to that in a moment!
How They Met
Kelly and Steven met at the Filly and Firkin Bar. (I believe that bar is closed now.) Kelly was at the bar with her friend Nancy, and Steve was at the bar with his friend Neil. Kelly had been hanging out with a guy all night, and after chatting with Steve at the bar, Steve could tell that Kelly didn’t really like the guy – so he pretended to be Kelly’s boyfriend! The guy knew Steve was lying, and clearly didn’t like that. Apparently, this guy had bothered other guys that Steve knew at the bar that night, and the poor guy ended up getting punched. When that happened, Kelly and Steven ran from the bar. The next day, Steve asked Kelly to go out for coffee, and they found out that they were both normal human beings…. haha! After the coffee, they drove around for a couple hours just talking. Steven got hungry and ended up eating McDonald’s.
They dated for just over 6 years before Steven completely surprised Kelly by proposing!
In the summer of 2016, Kelly and Steven were at a City and Colour Concert at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto. They were at the very back of the venue, and when “their song” was being performed, Steven completely shocked Kelly with a proposal!
The Miller Lash House wedding ceremony was held outdoors, in a unique setting where the guests sat on ALL sides of the bride and groom during the ceremony! The circular setting was certainly interesting from a photography point of view! Kelly’s parents walked her up the long aisle (as seen in the first photo above), and Steven saw his bride for the first time as she approached the altar, which was beautifully decorated with gorgeous floral arrangements and greenery!
The Wedding Party
I don’t even know where to start with this wedding party. They were quite possibly the wildest, funniest, most entertaining wedding party I have ever encountered. I’m fairly certain that because of them, Kelly and Steven have the largest “outtakes folder” that I have ever created – haha! They clean-up pretty nice though, and I’m not just saying that because I’ve photographed 3 of the members of the wedding party previously 😉
We actually didn’t have as much time as I usually like to do the bride and groom photos, but we made good use of the time we did have! Kelly and Steven are naturals in front of the camera!
Below you can see some of the Secret Garden Themed decor that I mentioned earlier. I just love it – so elegant! The doorknob table-numbers are brilliant!
The reception area was tented, but with open sides so you literally felt like you were inside a hidden garden!
The newlyweds danced to “their song”, which of course was the same song that was playing at the concert when Steven proposed – “We Found Each Other in the Dark” by City and Colour.

Emily & Bill’s Sneak Peeks
Emily and Bill held their ROC wedding on an unusually blazing hot day at the end of September. It was somewhere around 35*C! Besides the unusual heat, everything went absolutely perfectly!
Emily and Bill had very elegant decor with a “light sprinkling” of golden dinosaurs – yes, golden dinosaurs. A lot of people were asking “What’s up with the golden dinosaurs?” and they all had to wait for the bride and groom’s speech to find out the answer. I believe Emily’s exact words were “Dinosaurs are the best, so just calm down.” hahaha!
Congrats Emily & Bill! I hope you are having an amazing time on your honeymoon!

Kelly & Steven’s Sneak Peeks
Kelly and Steven went with a Secret Garden theme for their Miller Lash House wedding in Scarborough – and it was BEAUTIFUL! The Miller Lash House is exactly the perfect venue for a Secret Garden themed wedding I would say! I can’t wait to share photos of all the beautiful decor!
Kelly wore a beautiful Stella York wedding gown, that fit her absolutely perfectly! And Steven looked quite dapper in his black-on-black suit!
Three of the youngest wedding party members are missing in the photo below – but aren’t the ring bearer (one of 3), and flower girl (one of 2) an adorable brother-sister team? This was an incredible wedding party to work with. The guys were “animals”, as Steven put it, and the girls are one of the most loyal group of friends I have ever seen! This wedding party is extra special as well, because I’ve previously photographed 3 of them!
Congrats Kelly & Steven!

Sarah & Graeme
How They Met
Sarah and Graeme met for the first time when they attended a youth group together. Graeme first asked Sarah out on a date when they were 9 years old, and she said no. Sarah thought that he was really awkward, but cute, and she was disappointed any time he didn’t show up to their youth group. Graeme thought Sarah was cute (remember, they were only 9 years old at the time!). Graeme was very shy, but Sarah made the effort to talk to him and made sure that he felt like a valuable member of their group. Week after week, the more Graeme got to know Sarah, the more he knew that he wanted to be more than just friends with her.
They remained friends over the years, and when they both went off to university they stayed in touch. Graeme asked Sarah out a few more times throughout the years, but Sarah still kept saying no. After Sarah and Graeme both graduated from university, Sarah was about to start a college program, and Graeme was about to be posted to Trenton (he’s in the military), Graeme asked Sarah out again, and this time Sarah said YES!
Their first date was actually at a wedding! Graeme’s sister’s wedding to be exact. With Graeme being in the military, he didn’t get much time off, and he wasn’t in town very often either, so they took advantage of the weekend where they were both in the same place. Sarah and Graeme’s families had known each other for awhile (makes sense, since Sarah and Graeme basically grew up together!), so Sarah’s parents were invited to the wedding as well. So, on Sarah and Graeme’s very first official date, she got to meet Graeme’s entire extended family, and technically both of their parents went on their first date with them. Haha!
A year-and-a-half after they started dating, it was Christmas Eve and they were at Graeme’s grandparents’ house where his family holds a big Christmas dinner before getting ready to head to church. After dinner (but before they left for the church service), Graeme pulled Sarah downstairs where he privately proposed.
Sarah and Graeme had their wedding at the Trillium Trails Banquet & Conference Centre, in Oshawa, on a beautiful autumn day. They got ready at the venue, Graeme in the basement and Sarah upstairs in the bridal suite, which was super convenient for me to go back and forth between them and take photos!
Not only is Graeme in the military (Air Force, if I’m remembering correctly), but all his groomsmen are too! I was very interested to see how half of an entire wedding party, being in the military, would go. I always assumed military men were very rigid and serious…. then I met Tom. After photographing the guys getting ready, I went upstairs to the bridal suite and said “So…. I met Tom” and Sarah immediately said “Oh, I’m sorry about that.” hahaha. I knew already it was going to be an amazing, and super-fun day.
I think the most interesting thing about having all the men in the wedding party being in the military, is that when they got dressed, they folded their clothes very neatly, and put them in very neat, precise piles. For anyone who has never been in a room with multiple men getting ready to attend a wedding, there is usually clothes everywhere, maybe a belt or two slung over a chair, alcohol, wallets, sometimes flasks, spare change, covering most surfaces, and at least one of them is writing their speech for the reception at the last-minute. You get the picture – military men? Nope, super organized, super neat – and yet somehow still fun. I credit Tom with getting a few genuine smiles out of Graeme for his first few portraits when he was still a little nervous.
Lots of people know about the First Look that some couples do these days, where the groom sees the bride for the first time. Well, I also like doing what I call “Dad’s First Look” – a dad seeing his little girl all dressed up as a bride for the first time.
Right after Sarah’s dad got his “first look” at his gorgeous daughter, it was Graeme’s turn, to see his bride.
After the first look(s), we went right into the Bride & Groom Portrait part of the day. This works out well because the couple can mingle with their guests during most of the cocktail hour, rather than taking photos after the ceremony! Not to mention the bride’s hair and makeup is still freshly done.
Anyone who knows me, or who has followed my work for awhile, knows how much I love veils!
It wasn’t actually very cold, but Sarah really loved this photo idea with the blanket wrapped around them, and I have to say I love how it turned out!
I told Sarah to bring Graeme’s nametag off his uniform, a little extra sentimental touch that adds to the day – not to mention Sarah’s new last name!
Ceremony time! Sarah and Graeme’s ceremony was outdoors, and they lucked into a gorgeous day! You can’t even imagine how happy and excited I was when the breeze kept gently blowing Sarah’s veil around during the ceremony. (Again I say, veils are awesome!)
The reception area at Trillium Trails is fantastic, and Sarah and Graeme did their first dance under a shower of bubbles (coming from a bubble-maker up on the balcony – because Mike from Xtreme Sound is awesome!). The windows in the room overlooked the grounds, and it was just a great area to celebrate a brand new marriage!
Congrats Sarah & Graeme!!
