Newmarket Wedding Photographer | Madsen’s Greenhouse | Hungry Brew Hops

Jennie & Lucas

How They Met

Jennie and Lucas originally met online, but they had their first date at the Hungry Brew Hops in Newmarket (spoiler alert: That’s also where they had their wedding reception!) When they met in-person, they both thought the other one looked better in-person than in their online photos (that’s always a good thing!). Things took off from there, and 2.5 years later they were engaged!

The Proposal

It was a normal summer evening in June, and Jennie and Lucas were hanging out on their back patio, reminiscing about when they first met, and Lucas just randomly decided to propose!

The Wedding

The Ceremony

Jennie and Lucas got married at Madsen’s Greenhouse in Newmarket. They had their ceremony outdoors, on a gorgeous day in June, surrounded by their closest family and friends. The ceremony was officiated by Jennie’s aunt, and the bride and groom wrote their own — very amusing — vows.

The Newlyweds!

We did all the bride and groom’s photos on the gorgeous grounds of Madsen’s Greenhouse (of course!), and we got the photos done so quickly we were actually a whole hour ahead of schedule!

The Reception

As I mentioned earlier, the reception was held at Hungry Brew Hops (in the upstairs party room), which is located right on Main Street in Newmarket.

Georgina Wedding Photographer | Georgina ROC Chalet Wedding Photos

Golden Dinosaurs | The Simpsons

Emily & Bill

“Dinosaurs are the best, so just calm down.”

Emily and Bill’s Georgina ROC Chalet wedding had very elegant decor with a “light sprinkling” of golden dinosaurs (yes, golden dinosaurs), and was accented with elements from The Simpsons. Most of the guests were wondering “What’s up with the golden dinosaurs?” and they all had to wait for the bride and groom’s speech to find out the answer – the answer was the quote above 😉

How They Met

Originally, Emily and Bill met on the internet. When they met in-person, they actually met outside a subway station in Toronto (because Emily was running late. ha). On their first date, they went to a pub, and they talked for hours. Bill got tipsy and was a super gentleman and insisted on escorting Emily home on the subway, bus, then subway, then to her car. Then, Emily drove him home because she was sober. They dated for 18 months before getting engaged!

The Proposal

Bill woke Emily up before my night-shift with coffee and a ring, and asked “So… you wanna get hitched?” Apparently this was a great way to wake up, because Emily said yes!

The Wedding

As I mentioned earlier, there were elements of The Simpsons TV show here and there. (The golden dinosaurs I’ll get into more when I get to the Reception part of the blog.) One of those was Bill’s cufflinks – which are replicas of the cufflinks from the Simpsons episode of Lisa’s wedding!

The Newlyweds!

Emily and Bill did a First Look (most people will tap the groom on the shoulder or poke them or something, Emily went with the always popular, ass-grab.), and all their bride & groom photos before the ceremony, so they could mingle with guests right after the ceremony.

The ceremony was held indoors, because despite it being September, it was crazy hot outside! (It was something like 32*C)

Toronto Wedding Photographer | Miller Lash House Wedding Photos

Secret Garden Themed Wedding

Kelly & Steven

Today I’m sharing with you photos from Kelly and Steven’s Miller Lash House wedding (with a secret garden theme!) Their Miller Lash House wedding took place on a gorgeous sunny Toronto day. (Well, Scarborough, technically.). The ceremony was outdoors in a unique circular 360* setting, while the reception was held in what felt like a tented garden. I just love all the decor that Kelly chose! But we will get to that in a moment!

How They Met

Kelly and Steven met at the Filly and Firkin Bar. (I believe that bar is closed now.) Kelly was at the bar with her friend Nancy, and Steve was at the bar with his friend Neil. Kelly had been hanging out with a guy all night, and after chatting with Steve at the bar, Steve could tell that Kelly didn’t really like the guy – so he pretended to be Kelly’s boyfriend! The guy knew Steve was lying, and clearly didn’t like that. Apparently, this guy had bothered other guys that Steve knew at the bar that night, and the poor guy ended up getting punched. When that happened, Kelly and Steven ran from the bar. The next day, Steve asked Kelly to go out for coffee, and they found out that they were both normal human beings…. haha! After the coffee, they drove around for a couple hours just talking. Steven got hungry and ended up eating McDonald’s.

They dated for just over 6 years before Steven completely surprised Kelly by proposing!

The Proposal

In the summer of 2016, Kelly and Steven were at a City and Colour Concert at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto. They were at the very back of the venue, and when “their song” was being performed, Steven completely shocked Kelly with a proposal!

The Wedding

The Miller Lash House is located at the Scarborough campus of the University of Toronto. It’s a tucked-away little gem of a venue, and it really suited the Secret Garden Theme perfectly!

The Ceremony

The Miller Lash House wedding ceremony was held outdoors, in a unique setting where the guests sat on ALL sides of the bride and groom during the ceremony! The circular setting was certainly interesting from a photography point of view! Kelly’s parents walked her up the long aisle (as seen in the first photo above), and Steven saw his bride for the first time as she approached the altar, which was beautifully decorated with gorgeous floral arrangements and greenery!

The Wedding Party

I don’t even know where to start with this wedding party. They were quite possibly the wildest, funniest, most entertaining wedding party I have ever encountered. I’m fairly certain that because of them, Kelly and Steven have the largest “outtakes folder” that I have ever created – haha! They clean-up pretty nice though, and I’m not just saying that because I’ve photographed 3 of the members of the wedding party previously 😉

The Newlyweds!

We actually didn’t have as much time as I usually like to do the bride and groom photos, but we made good use of the time we did have! Kelly and Steven are naturals in front of the camera!

The Reception

Below you can see some of the Secret Garden Themed decor that I mentioned earlier. I just love it – so elegant! The doorknob table-numbers are brilliant!

The reception area was tented, but with open sides so you literally felt like you were inside a hidden garden!

The newlyweds danced to “their song”, which of course was the same song that was playing at the concert when Steven proposed – “We Found Each Other in the Dark” by City and Colour.

Sutton Wedding Photographer | Rosie’s Place

Lily & Ahmad

Rosie's Place wedding photos by Sutton wedding photographer www.jnphotography.ca @filemanager

It’s not too often you marry the same person twice, but that’s exactly what Lily and Ahmad did! Lily got a teaching job in Vietnam, and to get the paperwork done in time, they legally got married in February. Then they had their wedding in July, at Sutton’s newest wedding venue, Rosie’s Place! I was honoured to be their Sutton wedding photographer for their big celebration!

Rosie's Place wedding photos by Sutton wedding photographer www.jnphotography.ca @filemanager

How They Met

In the very beginning, Ahmad and Lily met in high school. Ahmad was friends with Lily’s twin brother, Chris. Chris and Lily went to separate high schools, so Lily met Ahmad when he came over to visit Chris.

Flash forward to when they were in university: Lily came home from spending a summer studying in Venice, Italy. Ahmad was working at the local Petro-Can gas station. Ahmad ran into Lily’s family there, who told him about her travels. He texted her asking about the trip, and they started “seeing each other” that summer. By the end of the summer, they were officially a couple. Five years later, they were married!

The Wedding

Getting Ready

Lily and Ahmad actually got ready together for their wedding! They thought it would be easier, plus technically, they were already married anyway 😉

The Ceremony & Reception

Rosie's Place wedding photos by Sutton wedding photographer www.jnphotography.ca @filemanager

The wedding ceremony and reception were held at Rosie’s Place. The ceremony was outdoors, and the reception was held the beautiful barn filled with authentic antique decor! Lifestyles Catering served mouth-watering foods from all around the globe – which was fitting since Lily is such a world-traveller!

Since Lily and Ahmad were already married, they didn’t need an officiant. Instead, their wedding party took turns reading lines from the original ceremony.
Rosie's Place wedding photos by Sutton wedding photographer www.jnphotography.ca @filemanager

The Wedding Party

Another unique wedding element, was their almost-entirely male wedding party! The guys on the bride’s side wore shades of warm colours (yellow, orange, red, pink, etc.), and the guys on the groom’s side wore cool colours (green, purple, blue). Malini was not only the Maid of Honour (and only female attendant), but she was deemed by several people (including herself) as “the best person at the wedding”. Malini – you are awesome! (I know her response would be “I know.” haha.)

The Newlyweds!

We literally just walked all over the property and took photos – Rosie’s Place has tons of great photo spots!

Emily & Bill’s Sneak Peeks

Emily and Bill held their ROC wedding on an unusually blazing hot day at the end of September. It was somewhere around 35*C! Besides the unusual heat, everything went absolutely perfectly!
