Melissa & Andrew

How They Met

Melissa and Andrew were working at the same golf course in Guelph, the Cutten Club. At first, Andrew thought Melissa was “too loud” and didn’t really like her. So, Melissa decided that since he didn’t like her, she would ignore him and not pay him any attention. Turns out, Andrew got over that, as he asked Melissa out and they went on their first date to Woolwich Arms (also in Guelph) for dinner. Seven years later, he popped the question!

The Proposal

Andrew and Melissa have a cat names Kinsley. One night, she got outside and disappeared for 16 days. On the morning after she came back home, Melissa and Andrew were laying in bed, and Andrew reached into his bedside table to pull out the ring. He turned to Melissa and asked “Now that our family is back together, will you marry me?”.

The Wedding

Melissa and Andrew got married on a sunny August day, at the Summit Golf Club in Richmond Hill. They chose to have a Summit Golf Club wedding, because Melissa’s father has been a member there for over 20 years. (Side note, my own father is also a member there! So I already knew the place quite well.)

The Ceremony

The wedding ceremony was held on the back patio, with the famous 18th hole in the background. Anyone who’s been to the Summit Golf Club has admired the view!

Melissa & Andrew’s Sneak Peeks

Melissa and Andrew live in Thunder Bay, so I didn’t actually meet either of them in-person until their wedding day! I was however, very familiar with their wedding venue. My dad has been a member of the Summit Golf Club since 1983, and since Melissa’s dad is also a member there, it was a great venue for their wedding.

Being a Summit Golf Club wedding photographer was interesting because rather than just going there for dinner or their annual Canada Day BBQ and fireworks (I’m not a golfer, ha), I was now looking at it from a photographer’s point of view. Meaning, I was looking for where the sun was, the direction of the light, the quality of the light, as well as considering the best backgrounds… all while avoiding getting hit by golf balls 😉

Jennie & Lucas

How They Met

Jennie and Lucas originally met online, but they had their first date at the Hungry Brew Hops in Newmarket (spoiler alert: That’s also where they had their wedding reception!) When they met in-person, they both thought the other one looked better in-person than in their online photos (that’s always a good thing!). Things took off from there, and 2.5 years later they were engaged!

The Proposal

It was a normal summer evening in June, and Jennie and Lucas were hanging out on their back patio, reminiscing about when they first met, and Lucas just randomly decided to propose!

The Wedding

The Ceremony

Jennie and Lucas got married at Madsen’s Greenhouse in Newmarket. They had their ceremony outdoors, on a gorgeous day in June, surrounded by their closest family and friends. The ceremony was officiated by Jennie’s aunt, and the bride and groom wrote their own — very amusing — vows.

The Newlyweds!

We did all the bride and groom’s photos on the gorgeous grounds of Madsen’s Greenhouse (of course!), and we got the photos done so quickly we were actually a whole hour ahead of schedule!

The Reception

As I mentioned earlier, the reception was held at Hungry Brew Hops (in the upstairs party room), which is located right on Main Street in Newmarket.

Golden Dinosaurs | The Simpsons

“Dinosaurs are the best, so just calm down.”

Emily and Bill’s Georgina ROC Chalet wedding had very elegant decor with a “light sprinkling” of golden dinosaurs (yes, golden dinosaurs), and was accented with elements from The Simpsons. Most of the guests were wondering “What’s up with the golden dinosaurs?” and they all had to wait for the bride and groom’s speech to find out the answer – the answer was the quote above 😉

How They Met

Originally, Emily and Bill met on the internet. When they met in-person, they actually met outside a subway station in Toronto (because Emily was running late. ha). On their first date, they went to a pub, and they talked for hours. Bill got tipsy and was a super gentleman and insisted on escorting Emily home on the subway, bus, then subway, then to her car. Then, Emily drove him home because she was sober. They dated for 18 months before getting engaged!

The Proposal

Bill woke Emily up before my night-shift with coffee and a ring, and asked “So… you wanna get hitched?” Apparently this was a great way to wake up, because Emily said yes!

The Wedding


As I mentioned earlier, there were elements of The Simpsons TV show here and there. (The golden dinosaurs I’ll get into more when I get to the Reception part of the blog.) One of those was Bill’s cufflinks – which are replicas of the cufflinks from the Simpsons episode of Lisa’s wedding!

The Newlyweds!


Emily and Bill did a First Look (most people will tap the groom on the shoulder or poke them or something, Emily went with the always popular, ass-grab.), and all their bride & groom photos before the ceremony, so they could mingle with guests right after the ceremony.

The Ceremony


The ceremony was held indoors, because despite it being September, it was crazy hot outside! (It was something like 32*C)

Someone (not Emily), added to the golden dinosaur cake toppers, by dressing them with a tiny bouquet, and floral bow-tie!

The first dance was done in the same area as the ceremony, but the arch was moved away.
