Louise’s 40th Birthday Cake Smash

During Louise’s 40th birthday cake smash photo session, she asked me how long it’s been since we’ve known each other – since I did her very first photoshoot with her dogs, for my first Dog Day fundraiser. So, I decided to look it up! Turns out Louise, the day we met was January 29th, 2012 – over 8 years ago! (We have an anniversary! Awwww). I was actually surprised we haven’t made it to 10 years yet, I feel like I’ve known Louise (and now, her family) forever!

In the 8 years that I’ve known Louise, we’ve done (and I just went through all my backup files and counted) 15 photo sessions together. It feels like so much more though because I also edit a lot of photos Louise herself takes (yes, I offer photo editing services as well! *toothpaste smile*). But yes 15 photo sessions is about right, as most years we do bi-annual photoshoots… and we’ve only done one this year… SO FAR…. πŸ˜‰

Two or three years ago, Louise mentioned that she wanted to do a cake smash for her 40th birthday. I told her sure, but I didn’t know if I would be doing photography still in 10 years, that’s a long way away to be planning. Turns out, Louise looks SUPER young, and to this day my daughter still thinks she’s in her 20’s πŸ˜‰

Part of her birthday photoshoot was done at her home, with her family, her cats (who did NOT wear party hats! πŸ™ ), and her gorgeous, hilarious children. The other part was done at Crossfit Newmarket – those photos may appear in a separate blog post, if Louise lets me post them πŸ™‚

And so, to my dear friend, my long-time client, the mother of my little photo BFFs, and just all around wonderful human being, I say to you…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOUISE!!!!!!!!!!

I’m so glad I could bring your vision to life! We always have so much fun during our photoshoots, and always laugh pretty hard too. Good times! Fun sidenote: This is our 4th cake smash we’ve done together, after Olive, River, and of course, Dryfuss! πŸ˜‰ (I didn’t actually shoot Dryfuss’ cake smash, Louise did, and then I did all the editing, but I’m still counting it. πŸ˜€ )

Star Wars Cake Smash, starring River!

Earlier, I posted a sneak peek blog post for River’s Star Wars cake smash (which I don’t normally do!) because his photos were SO cute. Well today’s the day where you get to see a few more!

It was SO hard to choose which photos to put in River’s Star Wars cake smash storyboard! I had it narrowed down to about 50, and that’s when it got tough. Comment below and tell me what you think!

Victoria’s 6-Year-Old Cake Smash

Cake smashes aren’t just for babies! I love when I get to do cake smashes with older kids, because they REALLY know how to SMASH a cake! So, when one of my daughter’s bestest friends had a birthday late last year, we knew a cake smash would be loads of fun!

Victoria’s pink cat cake (made by always awesome Krystle, over at Dessert by Design) was completely obliterated. There were barely even any crumbs were left!

Today also happens to be Victoria’s mother’s (and my friend’s) birthday, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY HALI!!! πŸ˜€

Louise and Jeff‘s sweet baby girl sure has grown up since I last photographed her at 2 months old! Though I feel like I’ve watched her grow up since then, since I do some photo editing for Louise, and also from Facebook of course.

Before the actual cake smash, I always like to start off with some portraits. I love the purple and teal colour scheme, accented with peacock feathers, that Louise chose!

I lovelovelove cake smash sessions, because each one is different and you never know how the baby will react, but it’s ALWAYS adorable! This was especially true in Olive’s case. She went through a rollercoaster of emotions in a short period of time. First she was sad, because she didn’t want to sit near the cake (made by Dessert by Design), then she realized it was CAKE, and she was happy! I’m guessing she got nervous by having me and both her parents stare at her while she ate cake, so she got angry. But then – CAKE! Happy again! And that’s about how it went the whole time. Sad/Curious/Happy/Angry/Curious/Sad/Happy – it was hilarious (and adorable) to watch!

In any case, we got some great photos and of course great memories as well!
