Newmarket Wedding Photographer | Newmarket Wedding Photos | Madsen’s Greenhouse

Corrie & Justin

I have some Newmarket wedding photos to share today! Corrie and Justin got married at the ever-popular Madsen’s Greenhouse in Newmarket. I’ve thought long and hard about how to describe the “theme” of Corrie and Justin’s wedding. There was foliage, birdcages, birch tree decorations, leaves, lavender… after much thought I’ve decided to describe it as an “Enchanted Forest” theme. It was truly beautiful! (Well done, Corrie!).

How They Met

Now here is something you don’t hear too often… Corrie and Justin met while they were on vacation in Cuba! Justin was there with his buddy Alex, and Corrie was there with her 2 friends (Lauren and Kristen). Lauren wanted to meet Alex because they both went to Brock University. They all ended up hanging out together for the rest of the vacation, and they had a blast together! Corrie and Justin both thought that they had a lot of fun together, but they assumed they would never see each other again once they got back to Canada.

When they got home from Cuba, they added each other on Facebook and exchanged phone numbers. Since Corrie worked at a golf course, and Justin loves golf, Corrie invited Justin to go golfing. It was the summer, so they also attended various pool parties and outdoor get-togethers before they actually started dating.

The Proposal

It wasn’t until 8 years later that Justin popped the question! It was the weekend after Corrie’s birthday and Justin had planned an outing for that weekend, which was a complete surprise. Corrie came home from work and was greeted with flowers and wine. It took a while to notice, eventually Corrie noticed that her adorable dog Ava was wearing a new custom dog tag, which asked if Corrie wanted to marry Justin. Of course Corrie said yes! We celebrated by doing a waterfall tour and visiting the Eugenia waterfalls and a couple others, and exploring the outdoors for the day. Corrie said it was perfect!

The Wedding

The Bride & Groom!

Once Corrie and Justin were all pretty, they opted to do a First Look so they could maximize the time with their guests after the ceremony.
After that we went right into bride & groom photos. I must say, these two are fantastic in front of a camera! I don’t think I’ve ever shot so many bride & groom photos in such a short period of time!

The Ceremony

It was a perfect day to have an outdoor ceremony!

The Reception

Here’s where I will show you a bit of what I’m calling the “Enchanted Forest” decor!

I LOVE how Corrie and Justin did their seating chart! The logs, the moss… love it! And the head table “Mr. & Mrs” sign? Come on – it’s perfect!

Reception tables! It all goes together so elegantly. And the birch-tree-candle favors (made by Justin!)? Adorable.

Newmarket wedding decor photos at Madsen's Greenhouse, by Newmarket wedding photographer www.jnphotography.ca @filemanager

This is not a real cake (Corrie and her mom baked cupcakes!), but it is such a cool idea! If I remember correctly, Corrie told me her mom made this faux-cake out of pieces of birch tree, and then made a cute little cake topper with pinecones, decorating them to look like a bride and groom. And she even included a dog, to represent Corrie and Justin’s dog Ava!

I always love to see how couples can decorate the same venue differently!

All in all, it was a fantastic day, and I’m just thrilled I got to be a part of it!

Congrats Corrie & Justin!

Caledon Wedding Photographer | Elegant Rustic, Circus Acrobat, Canada 150 Wedding

Danielle & Kyle’s

Danielle and Kyle got married on Canada 150 this summer! They didn’t actually know it was Canada’s 150th birthday when they set their date, but it worked out – and it was certainly a big celebration! Spoiler alert: Danielle and Kyle’s wedding was AWESOME. Even cooler than this Caledon wedding photographer could have imagined! They had an antique Ford Model T car, acrobats, aerial silk dancer, a contortionist, farm animals, hay bales, an old log cabin, not one but TWO barns (including a “bar barn”), an old english telephone booth, a vintage carriage (which we didn’t end up using for photos, but it was still cool) and *drum roll*…. an ice cream truck!!!!

As easy as it would have been to have a “Canada 150 Wedding”, they didn’t go that route. Though Danielle did have her toes painted red with a Maple Leaf, and Kyle was wearing Canada-themed socks, that’s about the extent of the Canada-specific celebrations went. Really I would have to say that the ceremony was an “elegant rustic” theme, while the reception was more of a “circus acrobat” theme

How They Met

Danielle and Kyle met at Wynn Fitness, where Danielle worked. She was working at the juice bar, and Kyle was working out in the gym. Danielle used to offer Kyle free samples of smoothies, which he always declined. One day, a friend of Danielle’s offered to buy Kyle a Gatorade (this friend knew that Danielle had a huge crush on Kyle) and the three of them striked up a conversation. Kyle and Danielle eventually got to talking, and he said he had an old school Camaro, and Danielle asked to go for a ride. They went on their first official date to Tu Casa Restaurant, and were engaged 3.5 years later!

The Proposal

Danielle came home from work, opened the door, and Kyle was standing. He had candles, a bottle of wine and plant on the table beside him (all of which they already had). Kyle opened his laptop and there was a PowerPoint display, explaining how he loves Danielle and wants to spend the rest of his life with her. He then got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Danielle, of course, said yes!

The Wedding

The entire wedding took place at Danielle’s father’s house. It was a great setup for a wedding! They had an outdoor ceremony in front of an old log cabin (which was a bit risky because it lightly rained on and off for a bit, but it stopped raining just in time!). The reception was held in the main barn on the property. The barn next to the main barn was the “Bar barn” where the drinks were served.

Getting Ready

The girls got ready in the house. Since it was raining on and off during this part of the day, I opted to do most of the detail photos indoors. (Well, except the shoe photos, I did those on the covered porch.)
Wedding detail photos by Caledon wedding photographer, Jennifer Newberry Photography www.jnphotography.ca @filemanager

During a “rain break”, I did get Danielle’s dress hung up on the porch of the house for some photos – I just love how they turned out!
Caledon wedding gown photos by Caledon wedding photographer, Jennifer Newberry Photography www.jnphotography.ca @filemanager

Danielle’s bridesmaids helped her get ready, and it was impressive to me because I didn’t have to pose or “stage” anything! They were just doing their thing (perfectly photogenically might I add!) naturally! It’s rare and awesome for me as a Caledon wedding photographer when this happens.
Caledon bride photos by Caledon wedding photographer, Jennifer Newberry Photography www.jnphotography.ca @filemanager

Look at these two! Ready to get hitched! Danielle had Kyle choose his own suit, and it was to be a surprise for her – so at this point she had no idea what he was going to show up in!
Caledon wedding photos by Caledon wedding photographer, Jennifer Newberry Photography www.jnphotography.ca @filemanager

The Ceremony

Danielle was driven across the property by her father, in his old Ford Model T antique car. (It was quite the effort to stuff that huge wedding gown in there! lol).
Caledon vintage car wedding photos by Caledon wedding photographer, Jennifer Newberry Photography www.jnphotography.ca @filemanager

Often when I see dads escorting their brides down the aisle, they generally have a very stoic or serious look on their faces. I love how Danielle’s dad was all smiles! (And any guy I’ve photographed, knows how happy I was with the “hand in pocket” lol!)
Caledon outdoor wedding photos by Caledon wedding photographer, Jennifer Newberry Photography www.jnphotography.ca @filemanager
Since Danielle and Kyle didn’t do a First Look, the first time Kyle saw his bride was when she walked down the aisle with her father. I always love to do the shot above (right), as it captures the groom’s face as he watches his bride come down the aisle!

Wooden benches were set-up for the guests to watch the ceremony, and they (was it Kyle? I think so, but I might be wrong) built a platform for them and the officiant to stand on during the ceremony.
Caledon outdoor wedding photos by Caledon wedding photographer, Jennifer Newberry Photography www.jnphotography.ca @filemanager

After the ceremony, the newlyweds went back to the antique car and got in the back, and Danielle’s father escorted them back up to where the reception & cocktail hour was going to take place.

The Wedding Party

Although the wedding party didn’t stand up with Danielle and Kyle during the ceremony (they were sitting in the front rows), they certainly were still a big part of their day!

Little Clarke was a most adorable flower girl!

The Newlyweds!

I suppose now is a good time to mention that Danielle is a professional acrobat! When I asked what was the most important photo they wanted taken, she said “Me doing a handstand in my dress” – and so, that was the very first “Bride and groom” photo we did!
Caledon wedding photos by Caledon wedding photographer, Jennifer Newberry Photography www.jnphotography.ca @filemanager

I’m going to pause here for a moment just to mention, that while Danielle, Kyle and I were doing their photos, the guests were enjoying drinks and appetizers at cocktail hour. But amongst the guests mingling around were two awesome acrobats (and friends of Danielle’s) who were performing while walking around the crowd!
Caledon circus acrobats wedding photos by Caledon wedding photographer, Jennifer Newberry Photography www.jnphotography.ca @filemanager

Anyway, back to the bride and groom photos, we did photos all around the property. Danielle and Kyle are so photogenic, they made my job easy! Though I suppose, with Danielle’s job she’s probably very used to having cameras around!

The Reception

As I mentioned earlier, the reception was held in the main barn on the property. Danielle and Kyle did a beautiful job of decorating it!

When guests first entered the barn, they greeted the newlyweds and some of the wedding party in a short receiving line, and then were greeted by the acrobats who were performing during cocktail hour. The acrobats did a “champagne pour”, where one of them was sitting up in the silks dangling from the ceiling pouring the champagne into a glass the other acrobat was holding, and then handing out to guests. I’m told Danielle is usually the one up in the silks pouring the champagne when she does events!

The MC was none other than Danielle’s friend and contortionist, Gabriella! Two bridesmaids carried a purple suitcase into the middle of the barn, which Gabriella came out of and did a short performance before announcing the entrance of the bride and groom.
Caledon wedding contortionist MC photo by Caledon wedding photographer, Jennifer Newberry Photography www.jnphotography.ca @filemanager

During the reception, the main event was the incredible aerial silks performance by Danielle’s friend and bridesmaid, and one of Kyle’s best friends, Jennifer Roy! Honestly, I took so many awesome photos during her 8-minute performance, that I couldn’t just choose one or two for the blog. So have a scroll, here are all my favourites 😉

As you can see (above right), Danielle was moved to tears by Jen’s awesome performance! Danielle herself can also perform the aerial silks. Sidenote for Danielle: My daughter really wants to see you perform sometime 😉

As if all of the above wasn’t exciting enough – an ice cream truck showed up!

Even though it wasn’t quite dark enough, we went ahead and did a sparkler exit anyway before I was done for the night. Fun times!

Corrie and Justin got married at Newmarket’s very popular Madsen’s Greenhouse, on a beautiful sunny August day.

There was talk that it might rain, but the rain held off so they could have the outdoor ceremony that Corrie was hoping for! Here are a few photos of the happy couple – more to come!

Congrats Corrie & Justin!

Natalie & Brad

How They Met

Natalie and Brad first met online, and chatted through the computer for awhile before speaking on the phone. Even early on, they could tell that there was something special between them. When they finally met in-person, they took a walk on the beach, went for lunch at The Salty Dog on Queen St. East in Toronto, and then walked around downtown Toronto and talked some more.

After two and a half years of dating, Brad proposed, and shortly after that, they secured me as their King City wedding photographer!

Getting Ready

Brad and Natalie both got ready at The Kingsbridge Centre – but in separate rooms, on separate floors, as they didn’t want to see each other before the ceremony. This allowed me to do some photos of Brad getting ready as well!

As I mentioned in the sneak peek post, Brad and Natalie have an adorable little girl named Mila. She did visit her dad for some photos with him before the ceremony, but most of the time she stayed with the girls.

The Ceremony

The wedding ceremony was held at King’s Riding Golf Club, in King City, Ontario. The ceremony was held outdoors, in front of the main building at King’s Riding – it was a gorgeous view, on a gorgeous day! The ring bearer and flower girl, William and Kate, respectively, were too cute walking up the aisle together!

The Wedding Party

The lovely wedding party consisted of 4 bridesmaids, 2 flower girls (counting baby Mila!), 4 groomsmen, and a ring bearer.
If you recognize, Sarah, the maid of honour and Natalie’s sister, was also a bridesmaid at Amanda & Kenny’s wedding! It was great seeing her again (and Amanda and Kenny too!)!

Stephanie & Jordan

How They Met

Stephanie and Jordan met at a summer camp-out (pig roast party), through mutual friends. When Jordan saw Stephanie, his first thought was “I wonder if she’s single.” Stephanie’s first thought was “He’s cute, and confident!” They went on their first date in Orangeville – canoeing and dinner! They dated for 3.5 years before Jordan popped the question!

The Proposal

It was late morning, on Christmas 2015. After spending the morning with Jordan’s parents, Steph had asked to stop somewhere to exchange gifts before going to her parents’ place. Jordan chose Ingles Falls (near Owen Sound) on the way to Steph’s parents’, because they had talked about wanting to go there before. Stephanie didn’t expect that a proposal was coming. They found a spot to look at the falls, and Jordan said he wrote a song for Stephanie’s Christmas present. Jordan sang the song, then said nice things, and got down on one knee. There was much happiness and tears of joy!

The Wedding

I don’t normally post invitation pictures (I blurred out Stephanie and Jordan’s last names for privacy), but I was so excited when I saw that their wedding invitation matched the forget-me-nots in my backyard!

How adorable are these “love” shoes?! They are by Ellen DeGeneres! (I didn’t even know Ellen had her own fashion line!)

In between the decorative heart cut-out on Stephanie’s bouquet, was a piece of fabric from her grandmother’s wedding dress. I love it, pretty AND sentimental! And notice the blue thread? I think that covers the “something old”, “something borrowed” AND “something blue”!

Anyone who follows my work knows that I LOVE long veils! I certainly made good use of Stephanie’s veil, using it in many photos 🙂

When I was with Jordan, doing his “getting ready” photos, he mentioned that Stephanie had “the most beautiful blue eyes in the world.” I’m pretty sure the photo below shows off those blue eyes he was referring to!
Newmarket bride photos by Madsen's Newmarket wedding photographer, www.jnphotography.ca @filemanager

We did a few outdoor portraits of Stephanie, but it was SUPER windy and really sunny as well. The wind did make for some fun flowing-veil shots though! And really, who doesn’t love a flowing long-veil photo?!
Newmarket bride photos by Madsen's Newmarket wedding photographer, www.jnphotography.ca @filemanager

The Ceremony

The wedding ceremony was held outdoors at Madsen’s Greenhouse in Newmarket. I’m a Madsen’s Newmarket wedding photographer quite a bit, because I literally live 6 minutes away from the venue. This works out well for some couples because I can offer non-consecutive coverage at this venue!

Stephanie and Jordan performed a rose ceremony at their wedding. There are a few different ways that rose ceremonies can be done, but essentially the couple exchanges roses – which is actually their first gift to each other as a married couple! A single red rose has always meant “I love you”, so I’d say it bodes well for the occasion of a wedding 😉 However in Stephanie and Jordan’s case, before they exchanged roses, they had each of their family members place a white rose in a vase, and then after they did their exchange, they added their two red roses to the vase as well.

The Wedding Party

The fantastic wedding party! Stephanie had 6 bridesmaids (2 of them were pregnant, and 2 others had just had babies!), and Jordan had 5 groomsmen and 1 groomsmaid! They were all a super fun bunch! The little guy was shy as ever, but Colton made an excellent ring bearer!

The Reception

The reception area at Madsen’s always looks beautiful, and it was no exception for this wedding! I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that instead of a wedding cake, Steph and Jordan went with a giant cookie! There was a whole cookie table with different types of cookies, but what a great idea! (Plus, chocolate chip cookies are pretty much my most favourite food EVER, so you know I’m not biased at all!)
