Newmarket Outdoor Wedding Photographer

Alexandra & Andrew’s Sneak Peeks

It was a gorgeous (and hot!) September day for Alex and Drew’s amazing wedding. Everything was planned so well, and the whole day went incredibly smoothly! The entire wedding day was outdoors, at Alex’s parents’ beautiful property just 5 minutes north of Newmarket.

Here are some sneak peek photos from their awesome day!

Alex’s parents planted that willow tree themselves 20 years ago! Her dad also did the landscaping around the pond (not pictured below, but more photos to come!), hoping that one day one of his children would have their wedding on the property. It certainly paid off, it was beautiful – hands-down the best photo spot on the property!

The newlyweds left the ceremony area in a 1965 (I think? 1967? I can’t remember the exact year.) red Mustang! A pretty cool ceremony exit for sure!

Congrats Alex & Drew!

Megan & Jonathan’s Sunflower Wedding

How They Met

Megan and Jonathan actually met at a job interview! Jonathan thought “She seems nice”, while Megan thought to herself “He’s so handsome”. They went on their first date to Boston Pizza, and they must have hit it off because a year-and-a-half later they were engaged!

The Proposal

Megan and Jonathan were walking along the beach, looking for shells, when suddenly Jonathan had discovered a very exciting shell, and he brought it to Megan to show her what he’d found – it was an oyster shell with the ring inside!

The Wedding

Megan and Jonathan’s wedding has to be one of the cheeriest-yet-relaxed weddings I’ve ever been to. No one was rushing around, everyone was just enjoying the day. It was a great change of pace! The ceremony took place at Megan’s family cottage, in Coboconk Ontario. It was a bright sunny day with great weather, which matched the sunflower-theme perfectly! I also thought a sunflower wedding in October was pretty unique – it was awesome!

Getting Ready

Megan and the girls got ready inside the cottage, while the boys got ready in the boathouse. Megan didn’t actually put her dress on until 5-minutes before the ceremony was to start, and even then she was laid back and relaxed, and just as happy as I’ve ever seen a bride be! She had her two bridesmaids with her, as well as her soon-to-be 6-year-old step-daughter, Eloise. It was easy to see how much Megan and Eloise care about each other, anyone could tell that Megan was just as much in love with Eloise as with Jonathan!

The Ceremony

The ceremony was held outdoors, in the cottage’s backyard right by the lake. There was a large white tent set-up in case of bad weather – but happily it wasn’t even needed as it was a bright sunny day! Megan and Jonathan were married underneath the white tent, in front of about 50 of their closest family and friends.

The Wedding Party

The wedding party consisted of two bridesmaids, and two groomsmen, as well as Jonathan’s 6-year-old daughter Eloise. What a great group!

The Newlyweds!

The bride and groom (and lots with Eloise as well, of course!) photos were also done at the cottage, which I was thrilled about because there were lots of great photo locations!

The Reception

After the photos were completed, we all traveled about 1-minute down the road to the Coboconk Legion building. The hall was decorated with sunflowers as well, and everyone was happily chatting and having a great time!

Right after Megan and Jonathan were announced in, Eloise ran up to them and they gave her a hug, then they proceeded to the front of the room, just in front of the head table, to do their first dance as husband and wife.

Newmarket Wedding Photographer | Backyard Star Wars Wedding

Jillian & Beau

Star Wars has been getting a lot of press lately! The new movie “Rogue One” was recently released, and then today, actress Carrie Fisher died (known for her role as Princess Leia, of course.). Needless to say, everyone is talking about Star Wars these days! So, with Star Wars on the mind, I thought what better time to post about Jillian and Beau’s lovely, stormy, backyard Newmarket wedding!

How They Met

Beau’s sister, Tara, introduced Beau and Jillian. Jillian was friends with Tara, and she only knew Beau from a distance. They had a fun karaoke night, and Beau was smitten with Jillian. Tara had planned a night out of dancing, and they all went to a carnival before going to a bar. Beau made Jillian go on a spinny ride that she didn’t want to go on, and she ended up barfing everywhere – it was true love. Beau thought he blew his chances when Jillian got sick, but they spent the night joking around, and he let her know he was interested in her. Jillian’s first thought was “This is my best friend’s brother!”, but she knew he was special and she loved being with him. Beau’s first thought upon meeting Jill was “This girl is so cool!”.

They went on their first date to The Keg Steakhouse. They spent 3 hours at the restaurant talking and laughing, and they hit it off right away.

The Proposal

After 2 years of dating, Beau and Jill went on a trip to Mt. Tremblant. Beau took Jill up the mountain, and they were literally in the clouds when he popped the question!

The Wedding

It was a dull grey day when I woke up the morning of Jill and Beau’s wedding. The weather forecast didn’t look good. And most importantly, my pre-wedding sunshine dance didn’t help much (or so I THOUGHT!…). I got to Jill’s parents’ house, where the ceremony was to be held in the backyard, and also where everyone was getting ready. Shortly after I arrived, the thunder and lightning started, and the rain just poured. Good thing there were tents set up in the backyard for such weather! Everyone continued getting ready, and I remember vividly that as I was photographing the rings, the thunder was rumbling and the power flickered once or twice. Just after that, we heard that a tornado had touched down just 30 minutes away from us!

Before I go on, I will say that this was not a “Star Wars themed wedding” – every single one of the Star Wars elements were surprises for Beau, including some of the Star Wars-specific photos (like the Star Wars Lego figurines with the rings above.)

By far the most popular Star Wars element/surprise were Jillian’s shoes. She had them custom made, and even though she said they weren’t very comfortable, they looked fantastic and all the guests loved them!

Jillian and Beau’s daughter, Holly, was a most adorable flower girl. She had a very serious face for most of the day, observing everything that was going on, but I did get a few smiles out of her. (She certainly makes you work for those smiles!)

I got some super cute daddy/daughter pictures with Beau and Holly while Jillian was finishing up getting ready.

Jillian and Beau didn’t plan on doing a First Look, but at the last minute they changed their minds because then they wouldn’t have to hide from each other in the same house while getting ready. Makes sense to me!

The ceremony was held under the gazebo in Jillian’s parents’ backyard. There was an adjoining tent for the guests to be under as well.

Just after the ceremony, we were going to head out to do some bride & groom photos, and the skies cleared right up for us! It was a miracle! (Or perhaps the workings of a certain someone’s sunshine dance done earlier in the day 😉 ).

Once we got back to the house, Jillian and Beau greeted their guests, and got ready to start the reception. Jillian had left a gift on Beau’s chair at the head table, and he was very happy when he opened it! It was a rare Boba Fett helmet!

The photo below on the left was also going to be a surprise for Beau, but he totally caught on to what we were doing. 😉 I think I still surprised him with the photo below on the right though!

Congrats Jill & Beau!! I was so happy to be a part of your wedding day, and even the awful weather (which thankfully cleared up!) couldn’t dampen everyone’s happy spirits!

Newmarket Backyard Wedding Photographer

Jillian & Beau’s Sneak Peeks

Jillian and Beau are coming home from their honeymoon in Quebec today, so what better time than to post some sneak peeks from their wedding day!

I do love being a Newmarket backyard wedding photographer! Backyard weddings are so intimate, and nothing’s ever forgotten because usually they’re already at home! There’s no travel either! Another thing I love, are weddings with a theme! And in this case there were “accents” of Star Wars, which Beau is a big fan of. All these Star Wars special touches were a surprise. I think the most popular Star Wars accent were Jillian’s shoes – everyone was going crazy over them!

We left Newmarket for a short while, and went over to Kettleby to do some photos – we were definitely in luck because the thunderstorms cleared for us while we were out there!

The photo below was a special request that Jillian asked me to do. For you photographers reading this, the light sabers in the photo below are actually my Ice Light 2, with a bit of Photoshopping done to them 😉 I should note that I didn’t create the background/scene – I just added Jillian and Beau into it, and altered the lighting a little bit.

Congrats Jillian & Beau! Thunder, lightning, and even a tornado touching down couldn’t stop your awesome wedding day! 😉
