They’re here! Announcing…

Every year I take photos of my daughter in her various dance costumes. (I’ve also occasionally done dance photos for other people as well.) The thing is though, I have always done these photos in a studio-style setting. You know, indoors with the white or gray backdrop. Boring! This year I’ve decided to take her photos outdoors, and I thought I would extend this service to others as well!

Why Are Dance Mini Sessions Awesome?

  1. You get all the digital files! No more being forced to buy prints, only to have them scanned & copied later. (Yeahhh that’s right. Photographers know that you do it! ha.)
  2. TIME and individualized attention! “Picture Day” at any dance studio requires a LOT of dancers to be photographed on the same day, similar to “picture day” at school. It is normally a very rushed, and chaotic day! Rather than spending 30-60 seconds with each dancer, get your dancer the time and attention that their photos deserve!
  3. See what’s going on! You as the parent, get to watch the action! Not just dance studios, but MOST activities that kids do (hockey, karate, gymnastics, etc), when they have a “photo day”, the kids are whisked away into another room, and you have no idea what’s going on. You wonder if they’re smiling “properly”, if they’re being posed nicely or awkwardly, or what if their hair is sticking out weird! You just see the end result. At these photos sessions you can be right there beside me, seeing how things unfold!
  4. Detailed editing! Photographers who have to process mass amounts of photos (dance photos, school photos, etc.), they don’t have the time to go through each one and edit it properly. The photos just come “as is”. My photos are individually (yes, one-by-one) edited! Is there a weird rock on the ground? Edited out. Flyaway hair? Fixed. Blemish? Gone! Picture-perfect dance photos!

What are the details?

Let’s go through all the information that you’ll need about these special Dance Mini sessions, that are only being offered in June this year! PLEASE read through everything before sending me questions! 😉

  • When will these sessions be?
I have blocked off 2 dates in my calendar specifically for Dance Mini Sessions. However, if neither of the dates work for you, we may be able to find an alternate weekday evening that might work better with your schedule! The Dance Mini Session dates are:
    • Sunday, June 2nd, 2019
    • Sunday, June 23, 2019
  • Where will these sessions take place?
The sessions will take place either at a private estate in Aurora (long driveway, fields, forest, a large pond, walking trail through a forest), or somewhere in the Newmarket area. I’m taking my daughter out to a few locations to see what works the best, and if the timing works, people can choose what location they would prefer. I’m also considering doing a date in Barrie, if there’s enough interest!
  • How much will these sessions cost, and what will it include?
These sessions will be $295 (after taxes!), and they will include all the digital files (well, the digital files that I deem as being “good” 😉 ).
  • How will I get the digital files?
The digital files will be uploaded to a private online gallery, and from that gallery you can download all the files directly to your computer or mobile device. You can also share the gallery with your family and friends! (If you do that, they also will be able to download your files.) The gallery will be active for 10 years!
  • How many images will I get?
Every session is different, but likely you would be getting somewhere around 10 fully edited photos, give or take.
  • Can I order professional prints through you?
Of course, if you’d like! You have full printing rights with the digital files – that means you can print them at whatever lab you like. However if you’d like really high-quality professional prints, I can have that done as well. My print pricing can be found on my website here.
  • What if it rains, or the weather is bad? If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we can either reschedule to another date, or move the photo session indoors for the more well-known “studio style” photos, done with a neutral coloured backdrop.
  • My daughter dances a lot – she has 4 costumes! Can I get pictures done of her in all her costumes?
In a 20-minute session, time will be tight! I recommend only one costume, but if you’d like photos in multiple costumes we CAN squeeze in 2 costumes tops into the 20 minutes! I am offering the option of booking back-to-back sessions for anyone who needs more time.
  • I have multiple children who dance. Can I get photos of each of them, as well as together, in one session?
Yes! We can use the 20 minutes however you like. In cases of siblings, I can do a few photos of each child by themselves, and then wrap-up with some photos of them together. We can also book back-to-back sessions if you’d like a full mini session for each child.
  • I only want one or two shots of my child. Can I split a session with a friend, where we each get 10 minutes?
Sure, as long as you both attend the same session timeslot.
  • My daughter doesn’t dance, but she does do gymnastics. Can she participate?
Yes! Acro is a popular style of dance, and it’s very closely related to gymnastics. Therefore, gymnasts are welcome to attend as well! (Please note that there will not be any mats or cushioned surfaces!)

How do I register?

Similar to my wedding booking process, I need 2 things to register! Information, and a deposit.

Here are the 3 easy steps:

  1. Fill out the form below for EACH DANCER you would like to register! (If you have two dancers, please fill out this form twice!) If you are having any technical difficulties, or you don’t hear back from me within 24 hours, please email the information to jen@jnphotography.ca directly.
  2. Wait for my email! I will email you with the availability on the date(s) you’ve selected. Once we have agreed on a date and time for your session…
  3. Pay the deposit. I do require a $45 non-refundable deposit to hold your spot! E-transfer is the preferred method of payment, but if you would prefer to pay another way, we can arrange it.

And that’s it, you’re in! The remainder balance of $250 is due the day of your session (preferably also via e-transfer.).

The registration form below will be updated occasionally as time slots fill up – book early to ensure the date and time you would prefer!

Erin & Michael

Erin and Michael had ALL the weather for their King’s Riding wedding! It was cloudy, it rained, it hailed, it snowed, it was sunny, and it was consistently cold. But through all of that, Erin and Michael had a fantastic day with their family and friends, and they ended up married (which is the important part 😉 ) at the end of it all!

How They Met

Technically, the first time Erin and Michael met, was on separate bike rides at a stop light. Officially, they met at a winter spin class! They went on their first date at Spuntini restaurant in Toronto. I assume things went well, because 4 years (minus 1 day) later, they were engaged!

The Proposal

Michael proposed in February, at home, while they were getting ready to take the dog for a walk.

Getting Ready

Everyone got ready at the King’s Riding Golf Club, in separate areas. It was nice because everyone was in close-proximity, but at the same time it was easy to make sure that Erin and Michael didn’t see each other before the ceremony!

The First Look

Erin and Michael opted to do a First Look before the ceremony. It was a bit chilly, but worth it! (Though, I may be biased, because I think that better quality photos are always worth temporarily freezing. Luckily it wasn’t THAT cold. ha)

The Newlyweds!

After a quick gift exchange, we were off to do photos of the soon-to-be husband & wife!

By the time we were done photos, Erin and Michael were prettyyy cold, so they decided to move the ceremony indoors. Hurray warmth!

Carly & Phil

December was a rough month for me health-wise, but I did manage to get Carly and Phil‘s Tiffin wedding photos done! Woo hoo!!

How They Met & The Proposal

When Carly and Phil first met, they were both surprised at how much they love just talking to one another! They went on their first date at The Tin Cup, and 3 years later, on Halloween, Carly found an engagement ring in her pumpkin!

Carly and Phil had their forest-themed wedding ceremony, among the towering trees at the Tiffin Centre for Conservation. Yes, an awesome outdoor, forest ceremony (with perfect lighting, I might add!)!

The Wedding Party

I feel so lucky to always get to work with such fantastic wedding parties! They were awesome, and looking lovely, of course! The guys ditched their jackets, and the girls looked great in varying shades of pink and gold.

The Newlyweds!

Surrounded by a forest of trees, it’s not that difficult to find great photo spots – they are literally everywhere you look! Not to mention that these two are naturals in front of the camera!

The Reception

The reception was held in the awesome little log cabin (the Jose Building), that I always enjoy photographing receptions in. The space is the perfect size, there’s a covered patio, boardwalk, bar area, and even a full kitchen for the caterers to use – it’s a great set-up!

Bradford Wedding Photographer | The Bradford Barn

Lauren & Greg

Today I’m sharing some photos from Lauren and Greg‘s Bradford Barn wedding!

How They Met

Lauren and Greg’s story is beautifully written on their wedding website (which I will keep private unless asked to publish the link), so rather than re-write it, I will be lazy efficient, and just copy it here 😉

In September 2008, Lauren and Greg’s story began like so many that had come before:

1. Boy meets girl
2. Boy likes girl
3. Boy does nice things to get noticed but girl doesn’t realize the boy likes her
4. Girl even complains to boy about terrible luck with other boys

Ironically, Greg thought he was simply meeting a new co-worker in the newsroom of The Waterloo Region Record, but as it turns out he was about to meet the greatest person in his life. Needless to say, based on the story to this point, nothing had gone quite like Greg expected (or hoped).

Bad taste in music (Nickelback), mix tapes, hot chocolate and a shared love of sports brought them closer together. Their friendship grew, but timing never gave them a chance for anything more. Weeks in the newsroom turned to years, and eventually both moved on from Wilfrid Laurier and the city of Waterloo.

A couple chance encounters down the road made it clear to others that there was a clear attraction and connection between the two.

Sports has always been at the forefront of their friendship – take a Monday Night Football game in September 2012 for example. Greg (two weeks into his new life in Toronto) and his friend Josh happened to walk into the bar where Lauren worked. Their obvious “friendliness” was rekindled instantaneously, but alas, timing again wasn’t on their side.

Fast forward three years to Friday, October 23, 2015 – both were disappointed that the Toronto Blue Jays had been eliminated in a crushing game six defeat at the hands of the evil Kansas City Royals. Frustrated that the Jays late-season run didn’t have a magical finish, Lauren and Greg went on Facebook unknowingly beginning the journey to their own incredible ending.

After Greg left a note on Lauren’s “farewell to the Jays” post, a few comments were exchanged, innocent enough between friends, but admittedly Greg was the first to remember those old feelings from the bullpen. After days of texting and enough flirting that even a blind squirrel could read into, Lauren finally asked Greg to meet for a drink. Seven years after originally meeting they finally had an actual date … talk about anticipation.

From that night on Lauren and Greg fell in love, finding in each other their best friend and confidant. If anyone ever needs to know how much they care about each other just tell them this: Greg now watches football (soccer) on his own and Lauren won’t complain when a regular season Leafs’ game is on their TV. Weeknights are spent cooking, making football picks and geeking out over Star Wars or comic books. Weekends usually involve some horseplay – quite literally, as Greg volunteers at the farm where Lauren trains retired racehorses.

They’ve traveled to Bucs and Broncos games in Florida, the beaches of Jamaica, even hiked a volcano in Nicaragua and are excited for the new adventure each passing month and year will bring.

The Proposal

October 28, 2017 began like any normal Saturday. Little did Lauren know, the events that would transpire that day would make it the greatest day of her life thus far.

They took their first steps toward their future journey when Greg used a few groups of friends to set up an unexpected date. It will come as no surprise that Greg had planned for nearly every possible outcome – recruiting multiple future-groomsmen and friends to aid in this charade.

The day began with a skeet shooting lesson, at a gun range designed to get the Lauren into a specific region without raising any questions. Following the range, Greg made sure to mention a friend’s birthday pub crawl, after all they hadn’t seen this friend since his wedding, so Lauren brought up the pub’s “location” on the phone’s GPS. It didn’t seem that far (thanks to Greg changing the location label in his phone). So off they went to a very real pub at it’s very fake address. Luckily, Lauren was too happy during the drive to pay much attention to all the signs they passed on the way to “Brimstone Brewery” that advertised the trail riding farm that they’d actually driven to, in Port Colborne.

Grey skies and a threat of rain couldn’t damper Lauren’s excitement as she saw Greg ride his first horse, taking a trail out to the beach at Reebs Bay. Then just before sunset, with waves crashing behind them, and of course as per Lauren’s dream scenario – a couple horses nearby, it happened. As Greg looked at Lauren with grin on his face, he was at a loss for words for the first time in his life. He managed to explain to Lauren that she was everything he had ever dreamt for in life. She was the best thing about his present and the brightest spot in his future. Wearing Lauren’s favourite plaid shirt and ring in hand, Greg got down on one knee and proposed.

On their own they’ve had important life experiences, learned a hard lesson or two, and took unexpected detours – but Lauren and Greg have finally made their two halves whole.

Their wedding day will be just a few days short of a decade since Greg and Lauren first met. So much of their story has been written already, and they can’t wait to start on the next chapter. They’ve found their someone to share an adventure with.

The Wedding

A quick shoutout here: If you are looking for a rustic venue, or a barn venue, The Bradford Barn is THE best barn-wedding venue I’ve seen! The barn is two stories, the property is beautiful, and the staff are fantastic (and so helpful!!).

Getting Ready

The Bradford Barn has a 3-car garage that’s been renovated and converted into a bridal suite on one side, and a groom’s suite on the other – it’s pretty neat!

Even being in close-proximity, Lauren and Greg never saw each other before Lauren walked down the aisle, it worked very well!

The Ceremony

Lauren and Greg had their Bradford Barn wedding ceremony at the outdoor wooden arbour, with a large field in the background. It was quite emotional for both of them! Greg teared up when he saw his bride for the first time, and they both were a bit teary-eyed during the vows.

The Wedding Party

The wedding party consisted of seven groomsmen, three bridesmaids, and one bridesman. They are a super fun bunch, and we had a lot of fun not only doing the “standard” photos, but also a lot of silly ones. (Lauren and Greg have quite the sizeable “Outtakes” folder. haha.)

The Newlyweds!

After the family and wedding party photos, it was time for the newlyweds to take their bride & groom portraits! The Bradford Barn has a lot of great photo spots, so we kind of just wandered around and did our thing!

Richmond Hill Wedding Photographer | Summit Golf Club Wedding

Melissa & Andrew

How They Met

Melissa and Andrew were working at the same golf course in Guelph, the Cutten Club. At first, Andrew thought Melissa was “too loud” and didn’t really like her. So, Melissa decided that since he didn’t like her, she would ignore him and not pay him any attention. Turns out, Andrew got over that, as he asked Melissa out and they went on their first date to Woolwich Arms (also in Guelph) for dinner. Seven years later, he popped the question!

The Proposal

Andrew and Melissa have a cat names Kinsley. One night, she got outside and disappeared for 16 days. On the morning after she came back home, Melissa and Andrew were laying in bed, and Andrew reached into his bedside table to pull out the ring. He turned to Melissa and asked “Now that our family is back together, will you marry me?”.

The Wedding

Melissa and Andrew got married on a sunny August day, at the Summit Golf Club in Richmond Hill. They chose to have a Summit Golf Club wedding, because Melissa’s father has been a member there for over 20 years. (Side note, my own father is also a member there! So I already knew the place quite well.)

The Ceremony

The wedding ceremony was held on the back patio, with the famous 18th hole in the background. Anyone who’s been to the Summit Golf Club has admired the view!
